Audi TT - for strong and stylish. 


I remember, how all began. The first sketches - revolution harbingers in Audi-design, a shock from the first pictures, a "live" prototype and questions in enthusiastic eyes after my returning from the Parisian motor show of 1998 where a TT debuted as the serial car: "You saw? Or frivolous. Unessential to concentration. What to do: if at the Bolshoi theatre the blonde in varnish two-coloured shoes and a jacket from D&G has got to you on eyes крашеный, it speaks about much. Though still means nothing.

Meanwhile all first year of sales Audi TT of those individuals which are accustomed to meet on одежке, over and over again pulled out from ditches. The first car to Moscow has brought to itself, that too it is indicative, - the woman, washing the good acquaintance. After first "journey" from the Lubjansky area on quays of Moscow and Яузы in Сокольники doubts also have back crept in: a rigid suspension bracket, a sharp wheel, a nervous pedal of the gas, the limited visibility. For whom it? But how much the TT is original and interesting not only outside, it became definitively clear to me in the conditions approached to fighting - on school Audi Driving Experience last year on a Nurnburgring.

And here now - Monte-Carlo and modernised by a TT.

New engine V6 in 250 h.p. with specially adjusted "voice", the "drawn in" suspension bracket, brakes from RS4 and still variety of changes and the additions aggravating спортивность (p. 40 see, 41). But the most interesting and eclipsing all the rest - the unique transmission allowing almost instantly to switch transfer, not removing hands from a wheel and not pressing any pedals! You will tell: news is insignificant, saw. 
However SUCH transmission by serial cars did not meet yet! Here in what here business: Direct Sequential Gearshift it is arranged so, that gear wheels of 1st, 3rd and 5th transfers sit on one shaft, and 2nd, 4th and 6th - on other. At each shaft - the multidisk coupling. Thus the first shaft is in the second! (Engineers Audi the second time ingeniously used internal emptiness of a shaft - first time in well-known design Quattro.) When in work one transfer, for example the third, gear wheels of the fourth too in gearing, too turn and only wait, when the electrohydraulic drive will include 4th transfer. Switching process occupies only 0,2 seconds that is quite comparable to speed of work as the check point lever the advanced driver. The driver of a TT does now it as pilot Ф1, pressing fingers on rychazhki-shovels.

At DSG three modes: D and S - simple and sports automatic, but allowing to switch transfers manually, and it is pure мануальный. We will get under way? We will look at it Monte-Carlo? We put the lever in position S, we disconnect ESP, we press simultaneously a brake and gas pedal. When the arrow of a tachometre fades about 3500 rpm, we release a brake. Without a smoke, a dust and special noise the car tears from a place. A sound at a TT now absolutely another, it specially selected under the new engine. But advantages of its powerful nature fade into the background: at first it would be desirable to understand with advantages of a new box. The road from Ниццы in Monaco promotes it.

  Mode D allows to move on "automatic machine", not testing anything, except pleasure from process.

Behind a window the sea, under wheels ideal asphalt, road is twisted on mountain coast, transfers join while you will think of it. We will try to pull three fingers a plastic shovel under a wheel - switches! Left - lowers, right - raises.

Let's go faster. Here where the hand control causes delight. I have understood: when men say, that manual check points, and women that do not love love, they speak actually about a miscellaneous. Men prefer to operate process and independently to include the necessary transfers. Women are irritated with necessity to synchronise work of the right hand and the left foot, i.e. they do not love, by and large, a coupling pedal, and to the lever concern not bad. Because too like to take sometimes a hand on pulse and to supervise a situation. And what feeling of the control is given by this new box! That switching for 0,2 seconds is perceived as instant is one business. Another - now in turn it is possible to be switched at any moment: in the beginning, in the middle, in the end - and not to worry about stability of the car because coupling is always included.

On a wheel on the big speed there is a sensation of some instability. As if the sphere in the top point of sphere, the car is ready to react instantly even to intention to change a movement direction. Thus in high-speed turn you feel, how the suspension bracket as if "is collected in a heap", and you can write out that arch which you want, - restrictions from the car as if do not exist. And with included ESP you feel yourself, as the small prince, unpunished. Mode S holds engine turns in a zone of the maximum capacity - from 5 to 6 thousand. At 4000 there is a switching on the lowest transfer. The engine in such mode talks in all voice, therefore to use it pertinently, solving really sports problems. And ridiculous supervision. When on the big speed you throw a gas pedal, turns fall, but, having reached 4 thousand, transfer goes down also an arrow of a tachometre moves on a mark "5000". The car is thus accelerated. And so, while speed does not become less than 60 km/h.

Saturday morning in Monte-Carlo has met us the affable sun and deserted small streets. Rich men still slept, pilots Ф1 prepared for Australia somewhere not here, мажордомы walked dogs. Anybody worthy did not come across. And so it would be desirable стрельнуть - a TT all the same...
